Retinal Scans
Optical Coherance Tomography (OCT)
At Lamas and Brown Optometrists we are able to capture a digital image of the retina, blood vessels and optic nerve located at the back of your eyes. This aids in the early detection and management of diseases that can affect both your eyes and overall health. This includes glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, tumours, injuries and hypertension. With retinal imaging technology, the most subtle changes to the structures at the back of your eyes can be detected. It also provides a basis for future comparisons
The process is a simple, painless test that takes a few minutes to complete. The digital images are displayed instantly on our computer screens for discussion with you on the health of your eyes. These are then stored electronically for future comparison.
Visual Fields
Peripheral vision in humans is used to detect movement, find objects and see incoming threats. Sometimes diseases such as glaucoma, strokes, brain tumours, eye tumours, or genetic disorders can affect your peripheral vision. At Lamas and Brown Optometrists we are able to offer the latest in Automated visual field testing using the Humphrey Field Analyzer 3. This advanced computerized examination now only takes on average 2 minutes to complete per eye. With this we are able to detect many diseases and neurological problems before they cause problems for patient.
Retinal Imaging

This aids in the early detection and management of diseases that can affect both your eyes and overall health. This includes glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, tumours, injuries and hypertension. With retinal imaging technology, the most subtle changes to the structures at the back of your eyes can be detected. It also provides a basis for future comparisons
Retinal imaging is recommended at least every two years as part of your regular eye test. Medicare does not currently cover retinal imaging.
Corneal Topography
A corneal topographer is used to accurately map the shape of the front surface of the eye. It is used to diagnose various eye conditions such as astigmatism, keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration and other corneal distortions. Advanced rigid contact lenses can then be designed from the information derived from the topographer. It is also used to monitor for progression in keratoconus.
